For us, sustainability is not a trend, but part of our everyday life. We want our guests to feel comfortable - and to feel good about it. That's why we make sure that in everything we do, we treat resources, people, and our city with respect.
What we already do
Our rooms are largely furnished with secondhand furniture —repaired, combined, with charm and character. Where possible, we use LED lighting and motion detectors so that energy is only used where it is really needed. The attic has been newly insulated, which saves energy and makes the building more comfortable.
We do not clean the rooms daily for short stays in order to save water, electricity, and cleaning products. The bathrooms are equipped with refillable soap dispensers instead of disposable bottles. And the drinking water in the rooms comes in our own glass bottles, completely free of PET.
At Kafi fürDich, we work closely with Wasser für Wasser (WfW) and serve Zurich tap water with a purpose. We cook seasonally and regionally and try to use everything – for example, stale bread is turned into delicious dumplings.
We also pay attention to small, effective gestures in our everyday lives:
- Over 85% of our team comes to work on foot, by bike, or by public transport.
- We bundle our purchases to reduce trips.
- To-go cups are only available with lids if someone really needs one – and espresso to go? Better to drink it hot in a cup than cold in a cardboard cup.
FRom Zurich, for Zurich
We prefer to work with local partners who share our values—e.g., Intercomestibles (beverages), Amboss (beer), Chäs & Co. (cheese), and many other small Zurich businesses. This keeps the added value in the region—and the character on the plate.
REsponsibility & solidarity
For us, sustainability also means social responsibility. We donate a percentage of our revenue to cultural institutions in the city of Zurich – and occasionally offer accommodation to people who need a temporary solution through the city's social services. Because for us, sustainability always goes hand in hand with solidarity.

The “Die Blaue Schwalbe” label recognizes environmentally friendly accommodations in Europe that act in an ecological, social, and fair manner. We are delighted to be part of this community – and are listed as a sustainable hotel at www.wirsindanderswo.de.
Swisstainable – Level II “engaged”
We are part of Switzerland Tourism's national sustainability program Swisstainable. Our Level II – engaged classification shows that we are actively and continuously addressing sustainability and implementing concrete measures. This recognition is based on two important pillars:
